GARSTANG High School's 50th anniversary year has got off to a flying start, thanks to its students' unprecedented levels of success in their 2008 GCSE examinations.
81% of the students achieved 5 A*-C passes (in comparison with 50% in 2005) with 66% gaining 5 A*-C passes with English and Maths (in comparison with 41% in 2005).
Nearly one third of all students achieved at least 3 A*/A grades (in comparison with less than a tenth in 2005), with 6 students (Gill Ashcroft, Adam Dobson, George Doody, Alex Gabrysch, Jane Howell and Heather Nickson achieving a "full house" of A* and A grades.
For the first time, the school has not only met, but exceeded all national and local authority performance targets.
Phil Birch, Headteacher, is delighted by the students' success.
He said: "This outstanding performance is the fruit of the belief, commitment and drive of everyone associated with our school community. Now, we are all energized and inspired to continue our pursuit of excellence and achieve even higher standards in 2009. For the staff and students of Garstang High School, the sky really is the limit!"
