A BLITZ on grime and crime in the Garstang area has been hailed a success.
Operation Cleansweep, which took place last week, identified hot spots for graffiti, litter, dog fouling, anti-social behaviour, weeds and anything that made neighbourhoods look untidy.
Efforts were stepped up to put these right and highlights of the week included:
n A rubbish amnesty for Wyre Housing Association residents, with seven skips filled in Knott End and Garstang
n Schoolchildren from SS Mary and Michael School in Garstang and Garstang Community Primary School joining other pupils for litter picks in and around Preesall.
n The Unpaid Work team strimming overgrown areas in Preesall.
n Vehicle checkpoints.
Operation Cleansweep was co-ordinated by Wyre's Community Safety Partnership with input from organisations such as Wyre Borough Council, Lancashire Police, Fire and Rescue, Wyre Housing Association and other agencies.
Partnership chair Coun Graeme Cocker said: "Operations like this allow us to work closely with residents to tackle problems specific to their community. We'd like to thank everyone who got involved in the latest Cleansweep and hope it will encourage more people to take pride in their surroundings."
