A SPONSORED bike ride organised by fitness trainers Richard Fenton and John Barclay from Myerscough College raised over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research.
21 people took part in the event which took place on Sunday and involved a round-trip from the college to Beacon Fell and back again.
The bike ride aimed to simulate a small part of the Mexico Coast to Coast Cycling Challenge which Richard and John will be taking part in next year.
Richard said: "It was a fantastic day out. People loved it and we were fortunate that the weather held off. People of all different abilities got involved and a few of the fittest took part in a time trail around the top of Beacon Fell.
"We then made our way to Brock Bottoms where we splashed around and had a good laugh then we all headed back to the White Bull in Bilsborrow where they laid us on some sandwiches and chips which were great!
"There were kids doing it and we all completed it as a whole team. For some it was easy, and for some it was hard but at least we did it as a team.
"WABBA the World Amateur Body Building Association kindly sponsored us £250 to wear t-shirts which was also greatly appreciated."
Richard is now hoping to organise another bike ride in February in preparation for the Mexican challenge, for which each of the two men need to raise £3,200.
Richard added: "The more we keep running events like this, the bigger they will get each time. We're not only raising money, but getting people active as well. It's a beautiful way to spread fitness."
