THE first League game of the season at Fylde was played in weather akin to winter sports not cricket, Fylde promoted from Division One last year, batted first and they progressed to 18 in the 7th over when Chris Boyce was caught behind for 8, Mike Wa
tkinson joined Sam McKenzie (20) and they added 19 for the second wicket, Andy Furniss (9) was next out the score on 50.
At this stage Watkinson and Keith Moore began to push the score along and added 84 for the 4th wicket.
With the score on 134, when Moore was out for 35, Martin Finch entered the fray and bludgeoned the bowling with some lusty blows in scoring 29 from 16 balls (which included 3 towering 6s) before he was bowled.
Meanwhile Watkinson was there at the end of the innings for a patient 69no, to give the home team a total of 188 for 5.
Ian Walling was the pick of Garstang's bowlers taking 3 for 31 with Alex Kershaw picking up the other 2 for 23.
Garstang's reply, never really got going, they lost wickets at all too regular intervals.
The only partnership of note of 30, came from joint top scores Phil Baxendale and Richard Fox-Andrews with 17 each.
The only other two in double figures were Chris Redman (15) and Pankaj Tripathi (13).
The home side's bowling attack showed why they won so many games last season, with Martin Finch in fine form with figures of 10-8-5-5 ably supported by skipper Furniss 2 for 18.
