GARSTANG put in arguably their best performance of the season so far to beat Darwen and Blackburn.
Throughout the game Garstang played positively, with some quality link up play coming from Donna Richardson, Catharine Brown, Diane Roe, Jess Reid and Vicki Conlan in the midfield.
Garstang had many opportunities to take the lead from open play and from the many short corners that they earned - with forwards Becky Goldsmith, Laura Kennedy, and Jenny Gornall all going close. Unfortunately, however, the goal didn't come and Garstang went into the second half with the score still at 0-0.
Nevertheless, the team remained confident and continued to play some formidable attacking hockey. The break finally came when Conlan played a teasing ball into the danger area, and Gornall reached out her stick to divert the ball into the goal, making it 1-0 to Garstang.
With one goal under their belt, Garstang pressed for another, and were duly rewarded when Gornall swept home to complete her brace, and consolidate Garstang's lead.
The team played out the remainder of the game confidently and calmly, and when rarely threatened by the opposition, the defence of Margaret Crofts, Laura and Claire Aspden, Hannah Coulthurst, along with goalkeeper Vicky Bradley, held firm and comfortably thartwed any attacks that came their way.
After taking three valuable points from this game, Garstang can now look forward to their next match with some confidence after this convincing team performance.
