GARSTANG FC's 'revolving door' connection with Lancaster City has seen an old favourite returning to Riverside.
Goalkeeper Jim Brindle is back at Garstang after leaving the club for Giant Axe last season.
Brindle is making his return the Riverside to take over the first team goalkeeping gloves from Neil 'Tiny' Beesley - who has just left Garstang to join...Lancaster City!
Beesley caught the eye of City boss Barrie Stimpson after becoming a key member of Garstang's West Lancashire League championship winning side.
But the 25-year-old's departure left new Garstang manager Scott Somerside with a 'keeper dilemma, so he called on Brindle to return to the club where he made his name.
Brindle was taken to Giant Axe as cover for City's veteran shot-stopper Mark Thornley, and has latterly been on loan at Garstang's West Lancs League rivals Wyre Villa.
A club spokesperson said: "Jim is an excellent keeper with plenty of experience despite only being 24 years old, which is young in goalkeeping terms.''
Brindle has had to wait to make his second debut for Garstang, however, after Saturday's first team game at Coppull United again fell victim to the weather - the second weekend on the trot that Somerside's team have been forced to sit out a weekend fixture following the previous week's postponement against Barnoldswick.
It is also the sixth time this season that Garstang have lost a game to waterlooged pitches and, although they are still in eighth place in the league, they have as many as five games in hand over teams around them but would need to win all five to draw level with leaders Charnock Richard, who are currently 15 points clear of Garstang.
Weather permitting, Garstang are due to play Eagley at the Riverside this Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
l GARSTANG Football Club will be holding a unique event at the Patten Arms in Winmarleigh next Thursday, November 27.
The evening will include an introduction to the club's new health and fitness partners, 'Vitality', who will explain how they will be working to improve player's fitness and recovery, and a press launch and photoshoot featuring new sponsors with the new first and reserve team kit.
